Chapter 13

“You don’t have to, I'm just skimming through,” Ariana sa, starting to look as if she was going through the figures

on the report meticulously.

She purposely read through the report painstakingly slowly from the first page until the last page. Meanwhile,

John was still standing opposite her, and he felt an immense pressure watching her. His legs had turned to jelly

and he could barely stand upright.

What did it mean for him to have embezzled tens of millions of dollars from the company? It would mean he had

to spend the rest of his life in jall!

Suddenly, Ariana threw the reports onto the table with a loud slam.

John was so startled that he very nearly fell to his knees right then and there. However, to his surprise, he heard

Ariana mumble, “What the heck are all these numbers? There are so many of them. Who'd know what they

meant?

John froze when he heard Ariana say that. Did that mean she couldn’t understand a thing on the report? Miranda

also heard what Ariana said. She frowned at once, disappointment showing in her eyes.

How could Carson’s daughter not understand the simplest of their financial reports?

John wiped the sweat off his forehead and said with a bright smile, “Ms. Torrey, I've already told you that | can

tell you everything you want to know about the company. You didn’t have to personally chere by yourself.”

“You're right. But these documents still need signing.”

Ariana looked at Miranda next to her and said, “Ms. Ziegler, showwhere | should sign for the rest of these

documents and which ones | can ignore. I'd like to learn how to manage the company.”

There was a slight pause before Miranda answered, “Yes, Ms. Torrey.”

Miranda's voice was low and glum. It was obvious that she was disappointed in Ariana.

When Ariana saw that John didn’t look like he was going to leave any tsoon, she said,“”Mr. Wagner, what are

you doing still standing there? | don’t need you here anymore.”

John relaxed when he realized that Ariana didn’t seem to know what she was doing. So, he said, “If that’s the

case, Ms. Torrey, you may continue looking through the documents here. I'll be on my way out.”

“Okay.”

John only left when he saw that Ariana seemed disinterested in the rest of the documents in the pile. Before he

left, he even gave a warning look to Miranda, obviously warning her not to mention anything related to the

company to Ariana.

The door finally closed shut after John left.

Miranda walked up next to Ariana and said, “Ms. Torrey, you may askif there's anything you're unsure

about.”

“You're disappointed in me, aren't you?”

“No,” Miranda answered after another pause.

“You took a huge risk by handingall these financial reports right under John Wagner's eyes. Aren’t you afraid

that he’ll make things difficult for you after this?”

Miranda was shocked when she heard this. “Ms. Torrey?”

Chapter 13

Arlana replied faintly, “I know that John and Gwen have been embezzling funds from the company. It’s written

very clearly here in the reports. There has to be more than ten million dollars here.”

More than ten million dollars.

Ariana never thought that Gwen and John would daringly siphon so much money from the company funds. Still, it

was a good thing for her, saving her a lot of trouble. With this much stolen from the company, Gwen and John

would be spending the rest of their lives behind bars.

“You knew, Ms. Torrey? Then why did you...”

“Gwen has been in charge of this company for a while now, and she’s very good at manipulating the board of

directors and shareholders. I'm just an heiress who's just suddenly ascended into position. Since | can’t promise

any benefits for the directors or shareholders, there's no reason for them to take my side.

“Even if | wanted to get rid of Gwen and John, | can’t do it shly. What if they conspired to get rid of me? That

would then be the last that you'll ever see of me.”
