Chapter 357:
“How cyou are not aware of Cathy’s terminal illness?” Belinda inquired, a hint of mischief in her tone as she
watched the confusion unfold on Kristopher’s face and the shock on Evelyn's. “Miss Miller has been rushing to
the hospital every other day,” Belinda continued, her smile widening. “She’s been gasping for air, struggling to
breathe, and fainting at the slightest emotional upset... And you, her mother, really had no idea?”
Evelyn's complexion grew pale. “I...,” she began, but her words were cut short as the door to the tea room
swung open with urgency.
A maid, appearing to be around Evelyn's age, burst in, her expression fraught with anxiety. “Madam, there's
been a development in the basement. The doctor says that Cathy's sister's condition is concerning, and she...”
“Avery!” Evelyn's voice cracked with panic as she saw the maid about to disclose more than intended about
another matter entirely.
She stood abruptly, her eyes darting signals to Avery to remain silent. “What has happened to Cathy? Isn't she

Avery hesitated, her attention drawn to the other two occupants in the tea room. She quickly realized her slip
and glanced nervously at the guests.
Her gaze stopped short when she met Belinda’s eyes. Recognition sparked in her expression.
Wasn't this woman a friend of Joyce's?
She had definitely seen this lady before.
As Avery scrutinized her, Belinda furrowed her brows, looking her up and down, puzzlement evident in her voice.
“Have we met before?”
Taken aback by Belinda’s direct question, Avery paused briefly, then averted her gaze, unable to meet Belinda’s
eyes. “We haven't met before.”
Belinda wasn’t convinced by Avery's response. From the moment she first saw Avery, a flicker of familiarity
urged her to take a closer look. Avery, too, had been observing her. The surprise in her eyes was unmistakable,
not the sort one would show to a stranger. It was clear Avery recognized her.

However, Belinda’s memory had faded post-illness, making it hard to recall Avery's exact identity or how they
knew each other. With a narrowing of her eyes, Belinda pressed on. “Where have we met before?”
Avery, frowning and still avoiding eye contact, remained silent.
“Miss Nelson, you must be mistaken,” Evelyn interjected, stepping in front of Avery to shield her from Belinda’s
gaze. “Avery is my personal maid, always busy at home. It’s unlikely you've met her before.” Evelyn's tone
carried a hint of disdain as she addressed Belinda. “Miss Nelson, moments ago you were confronting me; now
you suddenly drop your pride to engage my maid?”
