Chapter 359:
Noticing his lack of protest, Evelyn's tension eased. She continued, fabricating the story with more ease. “You
heard Avery mention Cathy's sister earlier... In truth, after the accident, Cathy has carefully preserved her
sister's possessions. Whenever she feels the pain of her absence, she takes them out to feel closer to her. But
given her current health...”
Evelyn let out a weary sigh. “I'm worried that seeing her sister's things might make Cathy too emotional, so |
moved them to the basement. Even so, Cathy often goes down there to grieve...”
Her gaze locked with Kristopher’s as she continued. “So, if Avery mentioned something happening in the
basement related to Joyce... it’s likely Cathy went down there again, becoverwhelmed, and suffered a
relapse.” As she spoke, she tically dabbed at her eyes with a tissue.
“Kristopher, you understand how deep Cathy's bond with her sister was...”
Kristopher’s expression softened when he saw Evelyn's tear-stained cheeks. Any remnants of his suspicion
melted away, replaced by guilt.
He realized he shouldn’t have stirred up such painful memories.

Evelyn's eyes subconsciously darted towards Belinda, who was sitting beside Kristopher. If Belinda discovered
the truth about Joyce and Cathy's strained relationship, it would ruin all of Cathy's efforts over the years and
render Joyce's ongoing condition meaningless.
Even worse, as Kristopher turned his attention to Belinda, who appeared nonchalant while sipping her tea,
irritation flashed across his face.

“Stop drinking. Weren't you supposed to talk to Cathy?”
Belinda set her teacup aside and approached him with a sneer. “Fine. I'll go and share in Miss Miller's grief for
her sister. Let's see what symptoms this sorrow has triggered now. Perhaps | can be of sassistance.”
Her tone dripped with sarcasm.
Kristopher shot her a cold look before heading towards the door. “Where's the basement?”
Realizing Kristopher was determined to lead Belinda straight to the heart of their secret, panic gripped Evelyn.
Without thinking, she dashed forward and blocked Belinda’s path with outstretched arms. “You can’t go!”
