hard on myself over it...”
Cathy glanced at the tafter speaking. “Kristopher, | promised my mother | would spend the night with her...”
As she spoke, she reached out gently and touched Kristopher’s arm, her voice softening as she coaxed, “It's
gotten so late. Could you please drivehome?”
Her decision to accompany Kristopher on his search for Belinda was driven by more than concern.
On one level, she intended to keep a close watch on both Belinda and Kristopher, ensuring nothing inappropriate
happened between them after dark.
On another level, she saw it as a fallback plan. If their search for Belinda proved fruitless, she could use the late
hour as an excuse to ask Kristopher to take her home.
With the night already well spent, she saw an opportunity. By turning on her charm once he dropped her off, she

looked up to see that Kristopher was not turning the car around to head home. Instead, he continued driving
straight towards the city center.
Eyes wide with confusion, Cathy questioned him, “Kristopher, didn’t you say you were going to sendback?”

“Marc will send you back,” he replied, his gaze fixed on the road as he accelerated.
Stunned, Cathy fell silent. Before she could gather her thoughts, Kristopher’s phone rang. He answered it on
speakerphone.
Marc's voice, firm and authoritative, filled the car. “Mr. Cox, the car | arranged is on its way to Eden View. Keep
an eye out. Also, | checked the hotel ‘Night Paris’ you asked about. It's quite small. Fred indeed booked a queen-
sized room there. I've sent you the address.”
Without a glance sideways, Kristopher acknowledged the information. “Okay. Thank you,” he said, and then hung
up. He quickly located Marc's message and pressed the navigation button to set the route.
