Chapter 805
Marguerite's face fell, looking genuinely surprised.
"Called it off? Why?"
Jocelyn shook her head, "Silas didn't give a specific reason, just said he wasn't ready."
Marguerite's emotions were all over the place. Normally, she'd treat something like this as juicy gossip, but today
felt different.
Her brain was a jumble of thoughts, and her feelings were all mixed up. She couldn't grasp why she felt so
flustered over Silas and Violet's situation, when it really had nothing to do with her.
Penelope and Jocelyn didn't continue the conversation further. As the three were about to leave, they noticed
Violet walking out of the clinic, eyes red and puffy, clearly from crying.
The moment Violet saw Marguerite, she seemed to find a safe haven to pour out her grievances, and she burst
into tears, hugging Marguerite tightly.
"Marguerite, Silas wants to call off the engagement. What am | going to do?"
Marguerite was at a loss for words, so she just patted Violet's back gently, feeling an indescribable mix of
emotions herself.
She exchanged a look with Penelope and Jocelyn, who understood and quietly slipped away, leaving just Violet
and Marguerite.

Violet released Marguerite, shaking her head in frustration. "I don't know. He just woke up and said he didn't
want to get married anymore."
"Did something irreconcilable happen between you two?"
"No! We've barely met a few times, how could there be a conflict?"
Violet blurted out, then quickly caught herself and added nervously, "He's busy, and so am I. Our schedules
never match, but I love him, and | can feel he lovestoo!"
"How long have you two known each other?"
Violet hesitated, then dodged the question entirely, saying, "I think him calling off the engagement has nothing
to do with that. | suspect there's someone else."
Marguerite felt her heart skip a beat, inexplicably guilty for no reason.
Truthfully, she and Silas hadn't interacted much. They'd seen each other every day for the past three days, but
their interactions were completely normal. Even though she repeatedly mistook Silas for Frederick, nothing
inappropriate had happened.
Mostly, it was just a lot of testing the waters.
So, she didn't believe her charm was so great that after three days, Silas would want to call off his engagement
for her.
"Don't jump to conclusions. Wait until he's feeling better and talk things through with him. Marriage isn't
something to rush."
"Alright, Marguerite, I'll take your advice."
Violet's eyes, red from crying, were still strikingly beautiful, making her look even more vulnerable.
Marguerite was about to find an excuse to leave when Violet suddenly asked, "By the way, Marguerite, could you
givesof the painkillers you gave Silas?"
Marguerite snapped back to reality and handed the painkillers to Violet from her bag.
Violet looked at them for a moment, then asked, "Marguerite, how did you get such high-concentration
painkillers? They're from an overseas lab, you can't get these here."
Silas had left the painkillers at her place yesterday, and she'd put them with the invitation. In her rush this
morning, she grabbed them without thinking.
Marguerite wanted to be honest with her, but she feared being misunderstood, so she fibbed, "I recently moved,
and they belong to my landlord. | didn't mean to bring them, but they cin handy."
Suddenly, Violet gripped Marguerite's arm tightly. "Marguerite, you're the person | trust the most. Please don't lie
to me."
Marguerite was taken aback, noticing the hint of suspicion in Violet's eyes.
She forced a weak smile, "What could | possibly lie to you about? They're just painkillers. Now, go on, you should
get back."
Marguerite gently nudged Violet back towards the clinic. As Violet walked away, Marguerite took a deep,
steadying breath.
Across from the clinic, in the parking lot, a man in a black car observed everything quietly.
He turned to his assistant, his voice cold, "GetSilas's file."
