Chapter 806

The assistant quickly handed the file over to the man.

"Mr. Winston, tis of the essence. We've only managed to gather a limited amount of information, even after

combining it with what we previously knew. This is everything we have."

Maurice's long fingers gracefully flipped open the file, turning each page with care.

"The Deputy Chairman of the International Trade Organization... how can his background be so spotless?"

Assistant Janie looked troubled, swallowing hard as she murmured, "I'm puzzled too. He joined the trade

organization as a regular member and, in less than a month, was unexpectedly promoted to Deputy Chairman.

He then went on to establish an international venture capital group. His rise through the ranks was unnaturally

fast, yet six months ago, there was no trace of him at all. If he started as an unknown, how did he climb so

quickly...?"

Maurice furrowed his brow, deep in thought. Six months ago, Silas was a ghost. Six months ago...

Suddenly, his grip on the file tightened, and he turned sharply to Janie, urgently asking, "Did we find anything

about his family background?"

"Mr. Winston, he has no parents, but he does have a daughter."

"So, he and Violet are remarried?"

Janie quickly shook her head, then wore a peculiar expression. "No, Mr. Winston,

his marital status has always been single, with no record of any romantic relationships."

"No romantic relationships, yet he has a daughter..."

"Yes, his daughter is named Margot Ward."

Janie blurted it out, and the nseemed to unlock something in her mind, lighting up her thoughts. She

frowned, almost involuntarily whispering the name, "Margot... Margot... Could this be a coincidence?"

Maurice seemed to grasp this point as well and made a swift decision. "Investigate his daughter! Start with his

daughter!"

"Yes, Mr. Winston!"

Meanwhile, in the apartment...

Marguerite returned hfeeling utterly exhausted. Despite having recovered, she found herself running a low

fever once again. As she went to the kitchen to get swater to swallow her pills, her eyes landed on the beef

stew with potatoes in the fridge.

She couldn't deny it-Silas had cooked up a storm yesterday, and every dish was right up her alley. But the

portions were too generous, and she couldn't finish them all. Not wanting to waste the food, she stored the

leftovers in the fridge.

She couldn't fathom how a man she barely knew could so perfectly cater to her tastes. They had only met a few

times, and besides, he had a fiancée.

Unwilling to dwell on anything related to Silas, Marguerite dove under her covers, hoping sleep would allow her

to escape reality.

She drifted in and out of slumber, and when she finally opened her eyes, the sky was painted with a fiery glow.

She couldn't tell if it was dawn or dusk.

A heavy sense of loneliness settled over her, but amidst it, she felt something cool against her forehead.

Removing it, she found it was a fever patch.

A fever patch?

She didn't remember using one before falling asleep.

Startled and bewildered, Marguerite realized there was no one else in the room. Barefoot, she walked into the

living room, and there he was, that all-too-familiar figure sitting on the couch.

Their eyes met, and his deep, husky voice broke the silence, "You're awake?"
