Chapter 558
Winnie's voice cthrough the phone. It was trembling and thick with tears.
"Please, Yolanda, you have to help Yvonne! Please, save her!"
Yvonne?
Yolanda froze in her tracks and asked, "What happened? Slow down and telleverything."
"I just got a call from Yvonne, she didn't sound right. She kept saying she wanted to go home, but when I called
her name, she didn't respond. Then the call suddenly cut off. Earlier, | was with her at a bar. I'm scared
something's happened to her, so | called you!
"Yolanda, | know you two haven't been on good terms, but Yvonne might be in danger. Aunt Diana and Uncle
Harold are out of town, they're not in Riverdale right now. I'm on my way to the bar, but can you ctoo?"
Winne had no one else to turn to but Yolanda.
"You were at a bar with her earlier?" Yolanda asked, catching on to the important detail in Winnie's explanation.
"Yes, she invitedout to talk. It's her friend's bar, so | thought it'd be safe!"
Her voice trembled with worry. Even if Winnie was usually slow to catch on, she had picked up on something
unsettling in the background noise during that strange phone call.
"I left after we said goodbye and went home, but then | got that weird call..." Winnie recapped the events as
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtquickly as she could.
"I've been trying to reach her ever since, but she won't answer. Yolanda, I'm so scared something's happened! Is
there anything you can do to help her?"
"Don't panic. Sendthe address of the bar," Yolanda said. As she spoke, she grabbed her coat and headed
toward the street. She scanned for a cab.
If Winnie was calling to ask for her help, she couldn't just ignore it.
Yvonne was manipulative and self-serving, and any trouble she was in could easily be chalked up to karma.
Even so, Yolanda felt this was something she needed to handle personally, not just for herself but for the original
Yolanda.
Once Yolanda realized Yvonne was in danger, she didn't hesitate. She couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
It was late at night, and Yolanda knew all too well the kinds of dangers a girl could face in a situation like this.
"Yolanda, I'm hailing a cab right now. | should be there in about 30 minutes..."
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Winnie hadn't dared to involve her family. She worried that doing so
might harm Yvonne's reputation.
"Don't cover yet. Wait for my update," Yolanda said. She dispelled Winnie's plan to head straight to the bar.
She didn't know the full extent of what was happening with Yvonne.
If it turned out to be a group of regular troublemakers, Yolanda was confident she could handle it before Winnie
arrived. There'd be no need for her to get involved.
And if, by chance, Yvonne had provoked someone more dangerous or powerful, Winnie's presence would only
complicate the situation further.
After a brief moment of thought, Yolanda added, "If you want to head out, go to the district hospital instead. If |
find her, I'll need to take her there for a checkup."
Whatever had happened, Yvonne was likely shaken, and getting her to the hospital seemed like the safest
course of action.
Yolanda also preferred not to deal with Yvonne alone. Having Winnie meet them at the hospital would be a good
solution.
"Okay, I'll head there now," Winnie replied. She sounded slightly more reassured after Yolanda's suggestion.
Before hanging up, she added anxiously, "Oh, and Yolanda, please be careful. | know you're not the sas
before, but if things get dangerous, don't try to be a hero. If you have to, just call the cops!"
Even in her worry for Yvonne, Winnie didn't want Yolanda to take any unnecessary risks.
"I understand," Yolanda replied calmly.
Over time, she had cto know Winnie well, and this kind of thoughtful concern was exactly what she
expected from her.
Meanwhile, as Yolanda sat in the back of a cab speeding toward the bar, Layla stood at the top of the stairs on
the bar's second floor. Her eyes lit up when she spotted a young man rushing toward her.
"Leo! If you'd taken any longer, she would have woken up!"
Leonardo, who was slightly out of breath, gave her a disbelieving look as he slowed to a stop. "You seriously
managed to pull it off?"
