Chapter 819
Both men slumped exhausted in the booth. The women who'd been draped over Leon fled at the first sign of
violence, though a few bold gold-diggers tried approaching to help him up. Leon shoved them away roughly. "Get
lost!"
After what had just happened, he had no appetite for his usual entertainment.
James waved over a server. "Bringsbottles."
Within minutes, the table was lined with liquor. The server uncorked bottles and filled two glasses.
"Everyone out. Stop lurking around here." The staff hurried away.
James knocked back his drink and looked at Leon with bewilderment. "Why are you still here? Wantto hit you
again?"
"I know exactly who you are, Mr. Chancer. The thing is, we're not enemies-we're cut from the scloth." Leon's
smile turned shrewd. "You're her ex-husband, but | can see it in your eyes-you're still in love with her. She's
getting cozy with Zachary now, and that kills you as much as it kills me. Truth is, we only have one real enemy:
Zachary."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJames drained another glass. Before Leon even laid out his scheme, James could see exactly where this was
going. "You want to team up?"
"Call it whatever you want. But I'm curious if you had her once, why the hell did you divorce her?"
If he could marry a woman like that, he'd keep Sarah locked up at home, his beautiful caged bird.
The question sent fresh pain shooting through James's chest. He couldn't even explain to himself why he'd been
so hell-bent on divorce. Maybe he'd been an idiot-too much of an idiot to ever really see Sarah for who she was.
Only after losing her did he realize how mesmerizing the real Sarah could be.
Maybe during those three colorless years of marriage, he'd told himself he felt nothing, when he'd actually grown
dependent on someone who gave everything while asking for nothing in return.
People who take things for granted only understand the agony of loss when it's too late.
"No point rehashing ancient history. You want my help? How are you any different from Zachary? Actually, you're
worse."
Leon's revolting treatment of women made James sick. Scum like that didn't deserve Sarah. Much as he despised
Zachary, he had to admit the man had always protected her.
"Easy there. You really think Vivian's going to leave Zachary alone? She's completely obsessed with
him-won't tolerate him so much as glancing at another woman you don't stand a chance against her s
James slammed his glass down hard. "You're not scared of the Chancer family,
but the Reynolds family doesn't worry you either?"
"Scared? People spend their whole
lives boxing themselves in with labels. James, you can't let Sarah go-want to take her back by force?" Lean's
eyes gleamed with dark amusement. s
Take her by force?
James's hand shook. Losing control, he grabbed another drink and gulped it down. "No."
But deep down, naturally he wanted Sarah back. He just knew with crystal clarity that his chance was gone
forever.
He was the one who'd thrown her away. She had to hate his guts by now.
The realization made him fix Leon with a murderous stare. "I know she'll never takeback, which is exactly
why | wont stand by white | standby you hurt her. Leon, I'll be watching your every move." s
Leon's smile widened, but he remained silent.
Adams University buzzed with its usual youthful energy, students streaming back
and forth, most still carrying traces of adolescent innocence.
