Sylvia smiled. “It’s really thanks to everyone's hard work.”
“Don’t be so modest. Everyone can see how capable you are. All thosepanies | introduced to you? Nearly every one of them
Eugene clinked his glass with hers. “Really, | should be thanking you for being so outstanding!”
Sylvia could tell he was just trying to put her at ease. She took a small sip of her wine. “Then here’s to our success together.”
Eugene watched her as he drank, his eyes gentle and warm.

A clear, playful voice rang out. Sylvia turned to see a young woman hurrying over, her dress gathered in her hands to keep from
tripping.
The girl looked about twenty-three or twenty-four, her shoulder-length hair curled in soft waves. She wore a custom M&M evening
gown, and with her wide, almond-shaped eyes and tic lashes, she looked like she'd just stepped out of a mascara ad.
“Sylvia, letintroduce you. This is Jolin Farley, Mr. Farley's daughter—she’s in grad school right now.”
Eugene then turned to Jolin. “Jolin, this is Sylvia, the founder of HEGNAN.”
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Farley.” Sylvia greeted her with an easy, polite smile.
“Hello.” Jolin gave Sylvia a quick once-over, her tone lukewarm at best.
She turned right back to Eugene, her voice dipping into a playful whine. “Eugene, | haven't seen you in forever! Why don’t you
Eugene replied with the smild smile, “I've been busy lately. And your father’s schedule is packed, too.”
“He’s busy with his own stuff. You could stille see me!” Jolin’s enthusiasm was unrestrained. “We're going sailing this weekend
—are youing?”
“I'm afraid | don’t have tthis weekend,” Eugene answered politely, declining.
