Chapter 867
The wind howled across the rooftop, transforming in an instant into invisible blades, darting and weaving
between them like scenes from an action-packed movie!
"Of course," Wayne's voice was low, sparing with his words.
Years in public service had taught him the art of saying just enough - too much talk led to mistakes. Especially
since he was well aware that the woman before him was no ordinary person; she possessed a bravery and wit
not inferior to any man's!
After all, she was the woman Mr. Chambers loved deeply.
"In that case, Director-General Wayne and | share the sgoals. We shouldn't be adversaries but rather
comrades-in-arms," Evadne's eyes curved into a smile, light and unwearied.
"Ms. Ashbourne, | don't see any reason for us to stand together in battle."
A cold ripple flickered in Wayne's eyes, "You're a high-flying tycoon, and I'm a servant of the people. Our paths
should not cross. But regardless, I'm grateful to you for saving my wife. I'll repay this debt sday. If not in this
life, then in the next."
Evadne's brows knitted tightly.
"I need to get back to my wife. Excuse me," Wayne's expression was impassive as he turned to leave, but at that
moment, Evadne's voice cut through the cold air.
"Director-General Wayne, you constantly claim to be a servant of the people, but why do your actions diverge
from their needs?"
Wayne paused but didn't turn around.
"I know the person backing you is Avery," Evadne's eyes shone with a chilling light, her hair whipping about in
the wind.
The man's pupils contracted sharply, "Ms. Ashbourne, | have no idea what you're talking about."

"I'm not threatening you. Your right and wrong will be judged by the people, by the law, not me."
Evadne didn't fear revealing her hand; instead, she got straight to the point, "I'm here to tell you, allying with
Avery is digging your own grave, playing with fire. Even if you're willing to risk your own life, what about Mrs.
Jones?
You're doing all this for her; don't you care about her safety? Avery wouldn't hesitate to betray or kill his own kin.
To him, you're not a friend, just a disposable pawn. The moment you're no longer useful, he could easily silence
you. What he's promised to you won't fulfill, and your family won't be spared either. My family and the Chambers
family go way back. I've clashed with him enough times to know his schemes. Who could understand him better
than | do?"
Despite her earnest advice, Wayne remained unmoved.
Evadne suddenly felt that this man before her, more than his wife, was beyond remedy. He was completely
under Snakey Avery's control, brainwashed!
As Wayne approached the door, Evadne's sharp voice rang out again.
"Everything you're doing is for a new drug to be developed, to cure your wife's illness! But have you ever
considered, what if this new drug is a complete scam? It's impossible to have this kind of medicine created.
If it could be developed, why hasn't the government-supported Bright Group made any progress after all these
years? Is it because they lack data or samples? This project was doomed from the start! At least, that's how it
seems now!"
Though Wayne didn't turn, his rigid back tensed further.
Evadne's eyes darkened, revealing her final card. She pulled out a prepared medical report from her blazer and
unfolded it in front of him.
"This is the report on the new drug. It has no definitive effect on Alzheimer's disease; at best, it's a psychoactive
suppressant with a high risk of addiction!
Do you think the Bright Group couldn't have developed this? If it were so easy, this drug would've been on the
market already. So, Avery was just using you to clear obstacles from the start. Even if the drug is developed one
day, can Mrs. Jones afford to wait?!"
"Ms. Ashbourne, are you cursing my loved one?" Wayne's voice was hoarse, filled with a deadly chill.
"I'm trying to make you see Avery for who he is, to face the truth!"
Evadne's voice was also hoarse, her gaze intense, "If you continued as you were because Avery deceived you,
then after hearing this and still choosing to side with that devil, you're only deceiving yourself!"
She knew that lofty speeches about serving the people were no longer effective. Only by appealing to his
personal interests could she possibly sway him!
Evadne stepped closer to Wayne, slipping the report into his blazer pocket, then turned and left without looking
back.
In the biting cold wind, Wayne trembled as he pulled out the paper, glanced over
it, and then slowly tore it up, scattering it to the wind.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. Wayne pressed the phone to his ear.
"Harvey."
"Director-General Wayne, Mr. Chambers orders you to proceed tonight."
He took a deep breath, his gaze darkening, "Alright, got it."
At exactly 7 p.m., Mr. Griffith, accompanied by Aviana and Lilian and weakened by
illness, arrived at the K Hotel to hold a press conference on time.
He exposed all the misdeeds S-Star Group members had committed through drug control over this period,
cautioning everyone to steer clear of such dangerous substances at the risk of their lives.
"1, personally, am willing to cooperate fully with the police investigation. | support a thorough search of S-Star
Group for illicit drugs, with severe penalties for those found in possession. As chairman of S-Star Group, | cannot
shirk my responsibility and am willing to face all consequences, including legal sanctions!"
As his words concluded, Mark, supported by Lilian, stood trembling before the cameras, bowing deeply.

The flashbulbs lit up the room like daylight, touching everyone present, as well as those watching the livestream
online, deeply.
Public outrage reached a boiling point after a press conference held by S-Star Group!
The entire intewas ablaze, condemning the mastermind behind a real-life experiment gone wrong,
demanding a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served and not just swept under the rug in a bid to
maintain a facade of peace.
While the storm raged outside, Warner found solace in a hedonistic paradise orchestrated by Avery, numbing
himself with alcohol and the allure of women, indulging in what felt like the last celebration before the end times.
In the presidential suite, Warner downed drink after drink, served by the women surrounding him, getting more
and more intoxicated, until his consciousness began to blur.
Egged on by someone, he couldn't remember who, he found himself on top of a girl, injecting her with a syringe
full of drugs.
What happened next was a blur to Warner. He woke up at dawn with a splitting headache, naked in bed, with an
equally naked woman beside him.
At first, he didn't think much of it. Over the years, dealing with his father's business affairs, it wasn't uncommon
for people trying to curry favor to send women his way, and he wasn't one to refuse.
So, Warner nudged the woman with his foot, massaging his throbbing temples, "Hey, wake up, go back to your
own house to sleep!"
But the woman didn't move.
Warner's brows furrowed as he reached out to shake her. The moment he touched her skin, his expression froze.
Her body was cold and lifeless!
Warner immediately turned on the bedside lamp to check on her.
Coming from a family with a medical background, even though he had long since abandoned medicine for
business, he still had sbasic knowledge.
Two minutes later, he screamed, not caring about his nakedness, and jumped out of bed, curling up in the corner.
The woman in the bed had purple bruises on her body, signs of livor mortis. She was dead!
