Chapter 678 Watts seemed back to his usual self as he walked over. "Just got here?" Elodie nodded while tucking away her blueprints.
For a moment, she wondered if that flicker of emotion she'd caught on Watts's face earlier had been a trick of the light-because now, he was as relaxed as ever, smiling with that easy charm, his eyes fixed on her face. "You've seemed run down lately," he said, "Is the work here getting to you? You should take it easy. Lily Lockwood's been assigned to help with your workload-don't be shy about delegating. It'll be good training for her, too." Elodie was well aware, but for things that mattered, she preferred to handle them herself.
Of course, she took training Lily seriously, but sthings just had to be prioritized.
"I know, I will," she replied.
She hesitated, then added, "Are things still rough for you over at Eldrion Global? I can't just pretend nothing happened I do worry about you." Watts shrugged, unconcerned. "It's no big deal. You know President Barnes is my mother, so they can't just kickout of Eldrion Global. Sure, it's a hassle, but that's part of growing up. You've got to take spunches to get tougher." He didn't make any grand promises about handling it effortlessly-he was just being honest and straightforward. Elodie thought for a moment. "I can't really help with company politics, but I won't forget what you've done. If VistaLink Technologies ever lands a good project, I'll make sure you're in on it." It was the fairest way she knew. No strings attached-just settling the account.

If you could keep an eye out and steeraway from any big mistakes, we'll call it even. Deal?" A simple enough request.
Elodie nodded. "If you need anything, just ask." With that, she turned and headed toward the other side of the test site.
Watts watched her go, his expression unchanged, but there was a shadow of something deeper in his eyes.
Elodie was pregnant.
He'd heard about it from Patricia.
Not that he let any of it show.
This baby couldn't have cat a worse time.
His phone rang. He answered.
Patricia's voice was cool. "So, what's going on between you and Jarrod? Has he cgunning for you yet?" After what happened in Duskendale, she figured Jarrod would pin it all on Watts. The total lack of reaction was suspicious in itself.
Watts replied, "Quiet as a grave." Still, he knew what kind of man Jarrod was once he set his mind on something, he wasn't quick to let it go. Watts didn't like Jarrod, but that didn't mean he could afford to let his guard down.
Patricia warned, "Don't get cocky. You've been burned by him before." Watts finally looked up, lazily.
Suddenly, Patricia sounded distracted. "Why is there a woman's pearl earring in your house? I found it on your nightstand. Whose is it? Should I toss it?" Watts turned and started walking toward Section Two, his tone indifferent. "Leave it." Patricia let out a short laugh. "Too late. I already had it thrown out." Watts paused for just a moment, his face unreadable. He said nothing, just kept walking.

Patricia clicked her tongue. "Not worth caring about, anyway. Just trash, right?" Watts ended the call, paying her no mind.
As he left the base, he dialed a number overseas.
When Elodie finished work and stepped outside, she found Jarrod already waiting by the entrance.
He leaned against his car, glancing at her as she approached. The evening light was fading, and his gaze was E strikingly clear and intense.
"Don't you have better things to do?" Elodie kept it practical-his schedule was packed to the bkim yet the past few days he few days he'd shown up for her morning, noon, and night, never missing a beat. Jarrod opened the passenger door. "You probably won't seefor the next three days. I've got to leave on urgent business tonight." "You don't have to report your schedule to me." "Whether you want to know is up to you. Whether I tell you is up to me." He walked over and handed her a bottle of sweet milk he'd brought from home.
Elodie checked the time. "The base is sending a car for me. You don't have to go out of your way."
Jarrod looked down at her, his dark eyes unwavering. "About the baby-be back in three days at the latest No matter what, I want to be the one standing in front of you when we talk about it."
