Chapter 632: Typical
The plea hit him harder than he expected. Against his nature, Arthur froze, jaw tightening as her words anchored
him in place.
Then, almost instinctively, he pulled her trembling body into his arms, hoping the press of her warmth against
him would steady his own pulse and somehow ease the torment tearing through her.
Minutes crawled by. Five... ten... until finally, the blinding glow began to soften. With it, the searing pain lacing
through her body dulled to something bearable.
Arthur's eyes snapped open the moment the brightness dimmed to safe levels. He quickly but gently pushed her
backwards to have a good look at her, vision adjusting.
And then, he froze.
Nnenna was staring back at him weirdly, sweat dripping down her face but her gaze steady.
"What—" he began, confusion rough in his throat.
"Stay back." she cut him off when she recovered from the awkward moment, pushing herself backward, her hand
shooting out in warning.
Arthur halted mid step, eyes narrowing, but what he saw next shattered his composure.
Her feet moved.
One step. Then another.
Her hands gripped the chair handles as her trembling body rose.
Arthur's heart slammed against his ribs. "Y-you're... standing," he whispered, voice cracking with disbelief.
"That's impossible..."
But even as the words left him, another voice deep inside reminded him, impossibilities had never stopped
Nnenna before.
Nnenna smiled faintly to herself, then lifted her head. Her eyes shifted past Arthur, toward the figure frozen at
the doorway.
"Are you just going to stand there," she said, voice teasing despite the sweat on her forehead, "or are you going
to helpwith my rehab, doctor?"
Arthur spun around sharply. Carl stood there, shock written plain on his face, mirroring his own disbelief.
For a few seconds, Carl didn’t move, as if his brain had short circuited. Then instinct took over. His hands
trembled only once before he dropped the shopping bag he had been carrying. It hit the collapsed iron door with
a loud clang.
"Alright then," he said, his voice slipping back into professional mode, steady and calm. "We'll do this carefully."
He stepped closer and positioned himself in front of her. "Take a step toward me. I'll hold you for balance, but the
moment you're steady, I'll let go."
Arthur clenched his fists, jaw tight as he stood aside, his eyes never leaving Nnenna.
Nnenna nodded. Her heart hammered, but determination lit her face. She reached forward, gripping Carl's
hands. Then, slowly, she shifted her weight onto her right leg.
One step.
The floor felt unfamiliar beneath her foot, but it held.
Carl's grip tightened just enough to keep her steady. "Good. Now the left," he instructed softly.

Two steps.
Arthur's chest rose and fell, sharp and uneven, as if he himself was holding his breath.
Carl studied her closely. "Alright... let's test it." He gradually loosened his grip, slipping his hand away little by
little.
For one terrifying moment, her knees wobbled. Nnenna bit down on her lip, forcing herself not to collapse. Her
back straightened. Her legs, shaky but firm, held.
She stood. On her own.
Carl exhaled loudly, half in disbelief, half in relief. "Incredible," he muttered.
Arthur... said nothing. His eyes, however, betrayed the storm inside him.
And Nnenna? She let out a breathless laugh. "Told you," she whispered, pride flashing across her face as she
took another step forward, this twithout anyone’s help.
"How is this possible?" Carl asked, eyes wide in disbelief.
"It's a miracle," Nnenna said with a grin. "You guys believe in miracles, right?"
"Yes... but I've never seen anything like this," Carl admitted slowly.
"Well, here | am. With God, all things are possible."
"But how?" Arthur's voice cut in, sharper than Carl's. "Don’t tellan angel just cdown and touched your
legs."
"Something like that," Nnenna said, amused.
"No. Not something like that." Arthur stepped forward, his tone firm. "You knew this would happen, didn't you?
That's why you weren't shaken when they said you would never walk again. That's why you checked yourself
into a rehab facility and chose the farthest room down the hall. That's why you told us not to pick you up until
tomorrow. And that’s why you claimed you would walk out of here by the tyou were done."
Carl's eyes narrowed, catching on immediately. "He's right. You knew. Either you start explaining, or none of us
are leaving this room." His words carried more rebuke than question.
Busted, the Love System chimed smugly in the background.
Nnenna froze, caught like a child exposed after sneaking cookies from the jar. Minutes passed, heavy with
silence, as both men fixed her with unblinking gazes.
Finally, she cracked. "Fine. Yes, | knew this would happen. But that’s not why | was calm when you told|

the world. The chair doesn’t limit me. Nothing can. And yes, | chose the farthest room to avoid drawing attention
to myself."
"Who knew there would be a huge light and freaking hellish pain," Nnenna muttered, still catching her breath. "I
can’t explain the how, guys. I'm not ready yet. You'll just have to trust me. As for changing the date to tomorrow,
| only did that because | wanted to get used to walking again before you saw me. Who knew you would show up
tonight?"
"Of course we showed up," Carl rebuked. "We wanted to spend the night close to you and go htogether
tomorrow."
"And why were you in pain?" Arthur's voice cut in sharp, almost like an interrogation. "Couldn’t your so called
‘angel’ use a gentler method?"
"I don’t think so," she replied quickly.
But the cold intensity in Arthur's gaze didn’t ease.
"I mean, seriously," she added, trying to lighten it, "my spinal cord was injured beyond medical repair. A little
pain while it's healed is nothing." Nnenna shrugged innocently.

"I don’t know what you wantto say!" Nnenna snapped back, her own annoyance breaking through. "It’s not
like you don’t keep secrets from me!"
Arthur stilled, taken aback. What secret is she talking about?
"I've never hidden anything from you," he answered, cold but sincere.
"Yeah, sure," Nnenna shot back, clearly not believing him.
"I'm serious," Arthur pressed, his voice steady but firmer now.
That only seemed to fuel her anger more.

Carl pressed his lips together tightly. He had had enough of this back and forth. After the funeral, Nnenna’s
questions never stopped, and Arthur's answers never came.
Carl was just as tired of the cold silence. Was Arthur scared of rejection? Didn't Nnenna’s persistence prove she
wanted the truth?
"Arthur?" Carl spoke firmly this time, adding his voice to hers.
But instead of answers, Arthur's tone cout flat, final. "We should go."
"What?"
"You're going back to school in the morning," Arthur continued, avoiding her eyes. "You shouldn't be late." Then
he turned and walked out, his footsteps echoing with finality.
"Typical," Nnenna scoffed under her breath, her chest tight with disappointment.
She turned sharply toward Carl. "I don’t suppose you know what he’s hiding?"
"Nope." Carl raised both hands like he was surrendering. "And | don’t want to be stuck in the middle of this."
Instead, he walked over to her packed bags and lifted them. "Let's go. You've got a busy day tomorrow."
Carl glanced back, half expecting to see her struggle, still not used to the fact that she could walk again. But to
his surprise, she followed with steady, effortless steps, like she had never been injured at all.

Carl drove in silence. Heavy silence. The kind that made even the hum of the tires feel loud. He couldn't take it
anymore. With a sigh, he reached for the radio.
