Chapter 634: Holding Back
But to cover pre clinicals and clinicals in a single year, while skipping months of lectures and practical postings?
To many, it sounded impossible.
Even Carl, in his time, had at least attended his postings before daring to skip ahead. But now this barely
eighteen year old girl was threatening to break his record. To most, it was laughable. To a few, though... it was
worth watching.
"I see you found my spot," a male voice called out.
Nnenna lifted her head from the book in her lap. "George," she said, a small smile tugging at her lips. "This is
your spot?"
"Yes." He nodded, settling down against the tree across from her. "I chere a lot to study. Peaceful, you
know? Guess that’s why you like it too. Which means... what | heard is true." His eyes narrowed with curiosity.
"You really intend to graduate after barely two years in this academy?"
"Yes, you heard right," Nnenna replied simply.
George blinked, as if her calmness only made the revelation more shocking. Then he chuckled softly. "A lion
hangs out with lions, after all. Feels like yesterday I first took notice of you, and now you're planning to graduate
the stas me." His voice carried no jealousy, only genuine admiration.
Sensing this, Nnenna’s smile deepened. "Anyone can do it, as long as they set their mind to it," she said calmly.
George shook his head. "No. Most people don’t take things this seriously. But you... you went the extra mile. You
inspire me." His gaze lingered on her.
The words caught Nnenna off guard. She was never good at accepting compliments. For a few seconds, she
didn’t know how to respond. Finally, she forced her voice steady. "Thank you... | appreciate you saying that."
George nodded, leaning back against the tree with a thoughtful look. "I’m curious," he said after a pause. "Where
have you been these past months?"
"| couldn’t reach you on your cell. | even went to the year two block to find Princess Ava, but she only said you
were taking personal toff. She wouldn’t mention why. Then today, someone toldthey spotted you in the
academy." George leaned forward, eyes sharp with curiosity. "Who knew you would be here? What happened?"
"Uhm..." Nnenna hesitated, torn between what she could say and what she couldn't. But lying wasn’t an option.
She drew in a breath. "I... lost a loved one and needed tto recover," she admitted softly.
George's expression shifted, all curiosity melting into empathy. "I'm sorry you had to go through that, Nnenna. |
can’t imagine how that must've felt. If you need anything... I'm here for you, okay?"
"Thank you." Nnenna gave a small nod. "But don’t worry, I've moved on." Her voice was calm, steady, too
steady.
George studied her for a beat, then shook his head. "I doubt that."
Her eyebrow arched at his bluntness.
"I believe you when you say you're moving forward," he clarified, "but grief isn't that simple. You know that too.
You've got to let yourself grieve."
"Yes, | know," Nnenna admitted quietly. "I've had almost a year now. Really, I'm better. It still hurts sometimes
when | remember... but that’s only because he mattered to me. A lot."
George's gaze softened. "I see." He leaned back against the tree, his tone gentler now. "You do seem fine. I'm no
psychiatrist, but | trust my gut, and my gut says you're telling the truth. I'm glad you're doing better now."

"What do you mean?" Nnenna asked, brows furrowing in confusion.
"You didn’t know?" His grin widened. "My second major is martial arts. And my private sensei? One of the best
masters in the entire Kingdom. I'm ranked no. 1 in year six."
"Really?" Nnenna raised an eyebrow, unimpressed and not the least bit intimidated.
"Yep."
"Well then..." her lips curved into a sly smile. "I'm looking forward to that day. Don’t expectto go easy on you
either."
"I bet." George's eyes lit up, fired up already, like the duel had been scheduled right then and there.
"Since I'm here," he said, shifting gears with ease, "lethelp you study. Graduating from year four ain't no
small feat, you know."
Nnenna blinked. She already had the best of the best as private tutors... but seeing the eager way George looked
at her, she decided not to refuse. "Sure."
"Awesome!" George replied, relocating to her side in less than a minute, like he had been waiting for that chance
all along.
George opened his notebook with the air of a senior about to guide a junior. "Alright, let's start with the basics,"
he said, voice firm but patient. "Year four pre clinical theory. You'll need these foundations nailed down before
you can handle the heavy stuff."
Nnenna smiled faintly, not correcting him. "Sure, go ahead."
He began explaining step by step, pointing out concepts, pausing now and then like a tutor waiting for his
student to catch up. But to his growing surprise, Nnenna kept answering his quick questions without hesitation,
calm, precise, and with the kind of confidence you only built from experience.
At first, George chuckled. "Lucky guesses, huh?"
Nnenna only tilted her head. "If that’s what you want to call it."
Then he moved on to year five clinical scenarios, expecting to finally stump her. But Nnenna’s responses flowed
just as smoothly, subtle corrections here, an extra detail there. She wasn’t showing off, but she couldn't fake
ignornace either.
George leaned back slowly, staring at her. "Hold on... you've already been through all this, haven't you?"
"Not exactly," Nnenna replied carefully, trying not to sound smug. "I've just... read a bit ahead."
"A bit?" His eyes narrowed in disbelief, then softened with admiration. "You're holding back on me."
She gave him a small shrug. "Maybe."
That was when George shifted. He flipped his notes open to year six full clinicals and case studies, the kind of
material he only discussed with his top peers. This time, his voice changed, no longer the superior tutor, but a
fellow scholar. "Alright then... let's see how you handle this."
To his relief, and secret excitement, Nnenna kept pace. They debated case outcomes, exchanged strategies,
even laughed when one of them made a mistake. The air between them was no longer teacher and student, but
equal minds sparring.
Hours passed like minutes.
George finally closed his book, shaking his head with a grin. "Unbelievable. You're not just aiming for graduation,
are you? You're sprinting towards bagging best graduating student, aren't you?."
Nnenna chuckled softly. "Or maybe you're just a good teacher."

The sharp trill of Nnenna’s alarm cut through the air, reminding her of her lesson twith Carl. She quickly shut
her book.
"I've got to go," she said, rising to her feet.
"So soon?" George asked, disappointment slipping into his voice.
Nnenna laughed. "It’s been five hours already. | have an appointment with someone."
George stood as well. "Then I'll walk you there."
"Actually, | can go on my own," she replied a little too quickly.
Truth was, she was headed to meet Carl, and she wasn’t sure how much she wanted people to know about their
closeness. That hesitation made her pause mid step.
"Are you going to see Prince Carl?" George asked, almost casually, but his eyes searched her face with unsettling
accuracy.
A flicker of surprise crossed Nnenna’s expression before she could hide it. She didn’t answer.

"It’s Carl," she called out.
George halted, turning back toward her slowly.
"I'm going to meet Carl," she repeated, her voice steady now. Then, after a pause, she added the words that
froze him in place:
"He's my older brother."
George blinked, disbelief etched across his face. "...You’re kidding, right?"
"You're related to someone that powerful, and yet you still hang out with the rest of us?"
