Chapter 645 Stewart helped Briony sit down on the bed.
She took the glass of water he handed her, swallowed the medication the nurse had insisted she take, and asked, "When can we go home?" They'd been away too long. She missed her two children desperately.
Given everything that had happened, she knew they were unbelievably lucky to have made it this far.

There's something deeply rooted in everyone-no matter how long you've been away, you want to return to where you belong.
"When your health is a little more stable." Stewart took the glass from her and set it on the table. "Do you want to FaceTwith the kids?" Briony's eyes lit up. "Of course I do. How do I look right now, though? Still like a patient?" "Much better than a few days ago." Stewart gave her a soft smile. "It's all over now, Bryn. You and the kids are safe.' Briony pressed her lips together, hesitating for a moment. "Did they ever find Ferdinand's body?" "There's nothing but ocean at the bottom of the cliff. The search teams combed the area for three days and found nothing. Chances are, the sea took him." Briony fell silent at that.
After a long pause, she asked, "What about Mary?" "She showed signs of a miscarriage, but she's in the hospital now. The doctors are hopeful she'll be okay." "I want to see her." Stewart thought for a moment. "Give it another couple of days. Why don't you call the kids first?" Briony nodded. "Alright." She worried the children would notice how sick she looked, so she pulled her shawl higher to cover the hospital gown beneath. Then, to keep the hospital bed out of sight, she moved over to the armchair by the window, propped her phone at just the right angle, and started the video call.
It connected almost immediately. James's face filled the screen.
"Bryn!" James was practically bursting with excitement. "You heartless woman- you finally remembered to call us!" Briony looked at him, and though he hadn't said much, her nose stung with tears.
Less than two months apart, and it felt like a lifetime.
Now, separated by an ocean, seeing James on her screen made her chest ache. Relief and homesickness tangled inside her.

On the other end, James's eyes went red too. "Theard everything. Thank God you're alright. As soon as you're better, I'll send my dad's jet to bring you home. I'll take the kids to the airport to meet you, okay?" Briony managed a watery smile. "Alright. Where are the kids?" "They're in the backyard with Lucky!" As James spoke, he carried the phone outside. "You have no idea how tough Lucky's life has been while you've been gone. Little Nina's been dressing him up, putting makeup on him- poor dog tries to play sick just to get a break, but Nina's not fooled in the slightest. He can't escape, can't hide. Every day is a struggle!" Briony couldn't help but laugh at James's exasperation. She could picture Lucky's suffering face as if he were right there.
"Little Nina's getting a bit out of hand. You've got to rein her in a little, on e Lucky's going to end up in therapy." "I think he's halfway there already!" James reached the yard and turned the camera. There they were her two little ones.
On the grass, Little Nina was busy braiding Lucky's fur. The golden retriever lay flat on at on the ground, m looking long-suffering, while Little Nina straddled his back, one hand holding a tiny comb, the other tugging at a handful of his fur. "Lucky, don't wiggle! If you move, it'll hurt more, see?" James muttered, "See? She doesn't even let him fight back." Briony was amused and exasperated. "Lettalk to her-hand her the phone." James crouched beside Little Nina, holding out the phone.
But she was far too busy to notice. Without looking up, she brushed and parted Lucky's fur with intense ΕΠ concentration. James nudged the phone closer. "Hey, sweetie, want to say hi?" "Oh, godfather, move your phone! Can't you see I'm making Lucky fabulous right now?"
