That night, Freya lay in bed for ages, unable to fall asleep.
Sure, during the summer break she and Ellis had left the kids with Alan, but this tfelt different—sending
them away wasn’t the same.
“Don’t worry. Jesse’s mature for his age. If anything comes up, he'll let us know,” Ellis said softly, gently stroking
her hair.
Freya murmured, “You're right.”
If it hadn't been for how well Kristian treated the kids—and how much Nina wanted to go—she wouldn't have
agreed, especially with them being in a different city.
Sensing she was still uneasy, Ellis added, “Don’t you trust Kristian’s family?”
“It’s not like that...” Freya tried to reason with herself, knowing they could be trusted.
Lionel, Melinda, and Isaac were all genuinely good people.
She knew Jesse and Nina would be treated with love.
But having the kids at hwhile they were out was completely different from sending them off on their own.
“If you're still not settled about it, we can head to Jeucwell in a couple of days to see them,” Ellis suggested,
understanding her instinctive hesitation. “Travel’s easy these days—it’ll only take half a day.”
“We don’t need to do that,” Freya said suddenly, feeling a little more at peace.
“Let them enjoy themselves.”
Kristian showed up bright and early the next morning.

“Very, very much!” Nina replied instantly, then added quickly, “But don’t worry.”
Ellis lifted his gaze a bit. “Worry about what?”
