Chapter 199
11
The weather in Hallon City turned cold quickly. Though it was only early autumn, the chill in the air was already
palpable.
Hailey had been back in Hallon City for a month, and now she had cdown with a fever,
Owen had spent the morning at the office, handling surgent files, and returned haround noon.
Hailey was lying under the covers, looking pale and lethargic.
Owen made soatmeal for her, brought it upstairs, and fed it to her.
Oatmeal alone wasn’t nutritious enough, so he also cooked a fried egz
Just as he was about to hand her the egg, Hailey frowned, pulled the covers off, and ran to the bathroom.
Moments later, she vomited up the oatmeal she had just swallowed.
Owen followed her to the bathroom, gently patting her back as he said, “I'm taking you to the hospital”
Hailey, pale, shook her head weakly. “It’s nothing. The weather's gotten colder, and | haven't been keeping warm
properly.”
“You look terrible. We should really get you checked,” Owen insisted.
After she rinsed her mouth, Owen picked her up and carried her back to the bed. She was particularly sensitive
to the cold due to the fever.
He went to her closet, grabbed a hoodie for her to wear, and then found a thick coat.
Hailey was feeling sluggish and reluctant to move. “I'll be fine if | just rest here. You still need to go to the office.
Don’t worry about me.”
Owen's face grew serious. “The office is not as important as you.”
Hailey smiled faintly, “Really, I'll be fine. Just chfor dinner later. I've got fever medicine at home, I'll
take it, then sleep it off.”
Seeing how stubborn she was, Owen didn’t argue further. He brought her a glass of warm water and left
instructions with the maid to keep an eye on her before heading to the office.
Hailey took the medicine, then fell into a deep sleep.
She didn’t wake up until 5 p.m.

Having slept for so long, she felt a little weak when she got up, but her fever was gone, and she felt much better.
Owen was nearly home, so Hailey went downstairs to check on the dinner preparations.
As she reached the kitchen door, the smell of oil and food wafted out.
Her stomach churned immediately.
She couldn't control herself and rushed to the bathroom, gagging again.
The maid quickly ran over, concerned. “Miss Dalton, are you alright?”
Hailey dry-heaved for a moment but couldn’t bring anything up.
She leaned against the doorframe, shook her head, and said, “It’s fine. Just bringa glass of hot water.”

“Yes, Miss,” the maid said, hurrying off.
After a few moments, Hailey stood up straight, took a deep breath, washed her face, and walked to the living
room.
Since she had no appetite, the kitchen staff made slight, refreshing dishes. She hadn’t eaten much at lunch,
but by dinner, her appetite had returned.
When Owen chome, he saw her eating. Her face looked much better than it had earlier that day, and he
finally felt relieved.
Hailey’s appetite fluctuated over the next two weeks. For the most part, she felt fine, and she didn’t think much
of it.
But one day, after waking up, Hailey found a small patch of blood on the sheets and spain in her lower
abdomen.
At first, she thought it was just her period, but the pain persisted until 10 a.m. She looked so pale, it was almost
frightening Only then did she realize something was wrong.
She touched her abdomen, feeling it cold to the touch.
Her body had no energy, and her limbs felt weak. Hailey’s eyelids grew heavy, and she fainted in the house.
The maids rushed to her side, frantically helping her onto the couch.
One of them screamed in panic, pointing at the floor. “There's blood!”
Hailey was rushed to the hospital.
When Owen arrived, she was still undergoing tests.
It was more than half an hour before she was transferred to a room.
“Are you a relative of the patient?” an older female doctor asked with a serious expression.
Owen nodded, his usually calm demeanor faltering as he spoke, “I'm her fiancé.”
“She’s pregnant. Didn't you know?” the doctor asked.
Owen's mind went blank. He couldn't believe it.
He had already arranged for a vasectomy, and they had been careful with their intimacy over the past few
months. How could she possibly be pregnant?
The doctor's voice was cold as she added, “It’s possible that the frequency of your intimacy led to the early signs
of a miscarriage. She's fine now, but she'll need to stay in the hospital for a while. She’s only a month along, and
the first three months are unstable. You'll need to monitor her closely. I'll have the head nurse cby to
explain the precautions.”
Owen stood there, his face taut and expressionless.
After a long pause, someone finally called his name. “Hey, Owen, hey!”
Owen turned to see Casey standing there.
“I heard the news and cright away. How's Hailey?” she asked, concern in her voice.
Owen, still struggling to process everything, replied in a low voice, “She’s pregnant.”
“Ah?” Casey's face lit up with surprise. “That's great news!”
Casey didn’t know about the complications between Owen and Hailey.

Owen's face remained emotionless as he replied softly, “You can go in and keep her company. I'll make a call.”
Casey scratched her head, a little confused, but nodded. “Okay...”

She didn’t quite understand why Owen didn’t seem more happy-wasn’t pregnancy supposed to be a joyous
thing?
She shook her head and entered the room.

Hailey woke up quickly. She opened her eyes and sat up, feeling spain in her abdomen, though it was much
better than earlier.
“Hailey, you're awake. How are you feeling now?” Casey asked, sitting beside her.
Hailey smiled weakly. “I'm better. Why are you here, making such a big fuss?”
“I had sfree time, so | thought I'd check on you. Oh, and guess what? You're pregnant! That's such great
news. You're going to have a baby!” Casey said cheerfully.
Hailey froze, her face going pale as she stammered, “I'm pregnant?”
“Yeah, Owen toldhimself.”
Hailey’s color drained from her face as she placed a hand on her abdomen. Her eyes teared up.
“Hailey, what's wrong?” Casey asked quickly, handing her a tissue.
Hailey felt like she couldn’t breathe, as if a hand was choking her throat.
She was gasping for air like a fish on the brink of dying.
“Casey, where's Owen?” Hailey asked, covering her face.
“He’s outside,” Casey said, unsure of what was happening.
“Please call him in,” Hailey asked, voice shaking.
Casey nodded and went out to find him.
Owen walked into the room, closing the door behind him, and sat by Hailey’s bed. He gently brushed the hair
from her forehead.
Her eyes were red, and her nose was swollen, clearly from crying.
“It’s my fault. I'm sorry,” Owen whispered.
