Seeing what happened, Sloane quickly poured a glass of water and handed it over. “Are you okay? Here, drink
swater.”
Larry took the glass and sipped a few times. Only then did the color start returning to his face.
He hurried to say, “Thank you, Mr. Hawthorne. I'm full.”
Lucas held the thermal container with a blank expression, casting a cold glance at Larry. “No need to thank me,
Mr. Larry. | just want to make sure you've had enough-how else will you have the strength to recover?”
Larry wouldn't dare let him feed him again. “I'm full. Really, I've had enough.”
Lucas set the container aside, and Larry quickly seized the moment to say to Sloane, “Sloane, could you help
take care offor a few days? With this injury... | really can’t do much on my
own.”
Sloane hesitated, about to answer when Lucas cut in first. “No need to worry, Mr. Larry. I'll hire the best private
nurse for you, someone who'll take excellent care of everything.”
Larry shook his head, looking paler than before. “Mr. Hawthorne, you may not know this, but | have a bit of a
cleanliness obsession. I'm not comfortable with strangers. Sloane knows medicine-it makes the most sense for
her to help.”
Lucas’ face darkened instantly, a sharp chill flashing through his eyes. He was about to refute him when Sloane
gently tugged on his sleeve and said in a low voice, “Lucas, Larry got hurt saving me. It's only right that | take
care of him. You should head back first, I'll contact you later.”
Lucas looked at her, eyes filled with frustration and helplessness. He knew that pushing any further would only
put Sloane in a tough spot.
He swallowed the fire burning inside and relented. “Fine. I'll head back. Callif anything comes up.”
Sloane nodded softly. “Okay. Be careful on the road.”

Lucas returned to the company with a storm cloud over his head, his expression dark and unreadable. The
moment he stepped into the office, the entire floor tensed.
Andrew instantly sensed that something was very wrong. He followed behind, arms full of documents, barely
daring to breathe.

“Mr. Hawthorne, these are the files you need to sign today...” Andrew spoke cautiously.
Lucas gave the documents a cold glance, his voice edged with impatience. “Leave them.”
Andrew quickly placed them on the desk and turned to leave, but Lucas suddenly snapped, “Where's the
quarterly report from Marketing? Why hasn't it been delivered yet?”
Andrew’s heart skipped a beat. “Mr. Westin from Marketing said they're still compiling the data... it might be a bit
late-"
And Lucas had actually approved the delay that morning...
Lucas’ voice shot up like a whip, his eyes sharp as ice. “Go get Westin.”
Andrew bolted.
Before long, Westin from the marketing department stepped into the room, practically shaking, clutching the
unfinished report with sweat beading on his forehead.
“Mr. Hawthorne, this is our quarterly report-it’s missing a few data points...” Westin said, voice trembling.
Lucas took the report, flipped through it, and his face grew darker with every page.
He slammed the report onto the desk, his voice cold as a blade. “This is your department's work? Incomplete
data, shallow analysis, you didn’t even grasp the most basic market trends. What exactly are you being paid
for?”
Westin went pale, scrambling to explain. “Mr. Hawthorne, there have been recent fluctuations in the market,
we're still verifying the numbers...”
“Verifying data?” Lucas sneered, lacing his words with biting sarcasm. “Market fluctuations are your excuse? If
your department can’t even handle that, then what's the point of doing market analysis? Might as well just go
home!”
Westin was completely stunned, head down, too afraid to say another word.
The entire office was suffocating; several department heads exchanged uneasy looks, all silently thought. What
happened to Mr. Hawthorne today? He's usually strict, but never this brutal...
Lucas’ outburst relieved sof the pressure building inside him, but the moment he remembered Sloane was
still at the hospital taking care of Larry, that dark mood cflooding right back.
He swept a cold glance across the managers still in the room, his voice laced with warning.

“What happened today better not happen again. If | see this kind of amateur mistake one more time, hand in
your resignations.”
They all nodded frantically and scrambled out.
The office finally quieted down. Lucas sank into his chair, rubbed his temples, frustration pulsing in his chest.
He knew he'd lost control today. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't suppress the storm inside him.
All of upper management had been shaken by Lucas’ unusual behavior. Word spread rapidly throughout the
company. Mr. Hawthorne, always calm, decisive, and razor-sharp had erupted today. He'd outright scolded
Westin from marketing in front of everyone.
His rare loss of control left everyone on edge.
“Did you hear? Mr. Hawthorne completely blew up today. He tore apart Marketing's report, and Westin looked like
he was about to cry...”
“I know, right? | passed the exec office earlier, Andrew was practically hiding in the doorway, scared to even
breathe.”
“What's going on? Mr. Hawthorne's usually strict, yeah, but he’s never this harsh.”
“Who knows... either way, everyone better lay low today. Nobody wants to get caught in the blast zone.”
Tension filled every corner of the company, like a stretched wire ready to snap.
Employees walked more softly, lowered their voices, doing everything they could not to provoke the unusually
volatile CEO.
And right then, a slender hand knocked gently on the office door.
“Cin,” Lucas said, his voice like ice.
The door opened quietly, and Sloane stepped in.
Lucas looked up and the moment he saw her, a flicker of surprise and disbelief passed through his eyes.
He stared at her. “Weren't you at the hospital. taking care of Larry?”
Sloane pulled out a chair and sat down. “Whitney showed up. She’s Larry's sister. It makes

more sense for her to stay.”

“Oh.” Lucas’ mood still hadn't lifted. His mind spiraled with thoughts he couldn’t push away. Was Sloane starting
to feel something different about Larry because he'd risked his life for her?
Sloane looked up at him and said suddenly, “Lucas, I'm sorry.”
“What?” Lucas froze, caught completely off guard. “Why are you apologizing?”
She blinked and gave him a playful smile. “I'm the one who leaked the news about you being at the hospital. The
moment Whitney heard, she rushed right over.”
Lucas stared at her for a beat, then broke into laughter.
He nodded in agreement. “Whitney's Larry’s biological sister, definitely the best person to look after him.”
