The girl's eyes burned with jealousy as she snapped, “Hmph, just because you're pretty doesn’t mean you can
do whatever you want. Stonebridge is a place, that values merit. Nobody's going to recognize a cheater like
you.”
Sloane, already tired of listening, rolled her eyes and brushed past her to leave.
The girl, furious and embarrassed, reached out to grab Sloane’s arm. “You're not going anywhere until you give
us an explanation!”
Sloane frowned and stepped aside, her expression turning cold. But the girl wasn’t done-she called for backup
and lunged again, this tgoing for Sloane’s hair.
That was the last straw.
Sloane stepped back-and at that moment, a vivid, iridescent snake slithered out from her sleeve. In a flash, it
coiled up the girl's arm and wrapped tightly around her neck.
The serpent flicked its tongue, its triangular head swaying near her face.
The girl's skin turned ghostly pale. Her mouth opened in a soundless scream, throat blocked by sheer terror. Her
entire body trembled violently, paralyzed by fear. She wanted to faint but was too scared to pass out.
The other girls watching screamed in horror and scattered, stumbling over each other in a frenzy to get away.
Sloane stood calmly, her voice like ice. “I suggest you don’t move. The more beautiful the snake, the more

The girl's eyes welled with tears. Her voice trembled as she stammered, “I—I’'m sorry... | was wrong.
Please,/please make it go away...”
Sloane furrowed her brow slightly and said, “Snowball, back.”
As if understanding her perfectly, the snake slowly uncoiled from the girl's neck and slithered back into Sloane’s
sleeve.

The girl collapsed to the ground in a heap-and only then realized her pants were soaked through. She looked
utterly humiliated.
“Sloane!” Jill crunning up, eyes wide with excitement after witnessing the whole scene.
“Yeah.” Sloane gave a small nod and took her hand. “Let's go.”
As they walked away, Jill couldn't stop glancing at Sloane's sleeve. “Sloane, was that snake real? Where did you
even hide it?”
Sloane's lips curved into a mysterious smile. She turned her palm upward, and Snowball appeared there, coiled
neatly in her hand. Its shimmering scales glinted in the sunlight, and its tiny head nuzzled against Sloane’s
fingers affectionately.
Jill leaned in, both amazed and a little unnerved. “Wow... it's gorgeous! But why a snake? Doesn't it bite?”
Sloane gently stroked Snowball’s back, her eyes soft. “I found Snowball in the mountains when | was a kid. I've
had her ever since. She'd never hurt me.”
She added, “But don’t touch her. She’s extremely venomous-deadly, even.”

Sloane's smile froze slightly.
Back when she was living with her master, there had been a few years where she smiled like that often.
