At that moment, a call cin from Marco and this time, | did drop the flowers from shock.
“Hello?” | whispered into the phone after accepting the call while my heart pounded away. There was a feeling of
guilt lingering in my chest over what | had done last night, but | was trying not to dwell on that too much right
now.
“Are you still mad at me, Addi?” Marco's sad voice filled my ear in the next moment, washing overand
making the feeling of guilt withinswell in folds. | swallowed emptily as | exhaled slowly, my eyes falling on
the roses which was on the ground.
My mind drifted over to last night, over the dinner which had been a complete disaster. | hadn't expected for me
to be utterly embarrassed and humiliated like that and if Zane hadn't been present, | wasn’t certain if Marco
would have bothered to defendeven once. That thought didn’t makehappy in any way, considering the
fact that he promisedit wouldn't be like that anymore. However, | was filled with guilt from what I did last
night, so I'd just feel more horrible if | refuse to forgive him right now.
Even though he didn’t get the type of flowers | liked despitetelling him a bunch of times, | guess it didn’t
matter. It was the thoughts that count, right? And actions does speaks louder than words at the end of the day.
“Addison?” He called, pullingout of my thoughts and back to the present. | let out a small exhale before
glancing down at my fingers.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Yes, Marco. | forgive you.” | breathed into the phone.
Marco's heave of relief made my heart flutter a little. It sounded like he had been genuinely worried that |
wouldn't forgive him, and that madefeel better cause it meant that he took what | said seriously last night.
“That's a relief. I'm glad. I'm really sorry about last night, | mean it.” The way he sounded tugged at my
heartstrings and my heart fluttered again. The love | had for him swelled in my chest and filled my entire body
with warmth.
“It’s alright, Marco.” | tell him, meaning those words. To be honest, | was mad at him last night and had meant
those words but | knew i couldn't be mad at him for long once he cto apologize. It was hard forto stay
mad at him throughout the t| was madly in love with him and that was yet to change now.
“Really?” He asked, sounding giddy and | felt a smile tug at my lips as | moved towards the flowers and picked it
up. | nodded even though he couldn't see me, then | walked into the kitchen and placed the roses on the
counter. Then | searched for my vase and filled it with water.
“So, is a second date on?” He asked and | nodded again, admiring the roses sitting in the vase. It would have
looked so much better if it were lilies, but it wasn’t completely bad.
“Yeah, it is. Where would you like us to go?” He asked and | hummed as | walked out of the kitchen into my
bedroom, then | headed straight to my closet and ruminated through the clothes in there. | had work in forty
minutes so I'd have to shower and get ready fast. Which means | didn’t have enough tto stay on the phone
for long this morning.

“Oh, yeah. That's true, | forgot about that. | guess we can talk about that later. Letget off your phone right
now so you can get ready.” He sighed, sounding like he wanted to stay on the phone withlonger and my
heart fluttered.
After a little more back and fourth, the call ended, then I sighed and slumped against the wall, but | had a light
on and the guilt | was feeling had lessened drastically. That went well, and | felt lighthearted and relaxed unlike
how | had predicted feeling this morning before falling asleep last night.
When | walked off to go shower, a dull ache in the spot between my thighs remindedof what happened last
night, but | refused to dwell on that. | wasn’t gonna be thinking about that, or about the man responsible for that.
I'll only think of Marco and the fact that he lovedlike | loved him.
With that, | went off to go shower fast so | don’t be late for work.
When | arrived at my job, which was a company dealing with tech and security, | felt a sense of normalcy fully
settle withinas | stopped at my usual spot for coffee for myself, my cubicle mates and the HR. As usual, the
old barista flirted withand | laughed heartedly till he made a comment that madegrow cold with dread.
“Wild night, huh?”
My eyes widened, and | wondered if it was that obvious. He laughed and pointed at my neck and | gasped on
realizing | had completely forgotten to cover the marks Zane left there. | hadn't even known there were marks till
while getting ready this morning. | had grabbed a scarf for it but | put it in my bag instead of around my neck.
I quickly pulled said scarf and wrapped it around my neck, feeling grateful that at least that was pointed out by
the barista and not my co-workers.
After | walked into the company and rode up the elevator, | exchanged pleasantries with the few people | talked
to, and after handling coffees out, | sat at my desk and powered up my laptop. As | sipped on my coffee, | heard
my nbeing called from the doorway.
When I glanced up, | was shocked to see the manager standing there himself and | quickly rushed to my feet and
walked around the table to stop a few feet away from him. Usually he’d send for whoever he wanted to cto
his office, coming down here himself couldn't mean anything good.
“Mr Van?” | asked politely while he held a hand up, his lips downturned as he spoke in a sharp voice.
“Miss Addison, you're been fired.”
