“Kaia? You okay?”
Kaia’s voice was thick with unshed tears. “I'm fine. Don’t trouble yourself.”

Alden frowned, annoyed. He didn’t press her further, instead letting the firefighters help Luna out first.
Once he was out, he spotted Nathan Brown, the admin manager. “There's still someone else in there,” he
instructed. “Have someone see her home.”
Then, he carried Luna directly to the hospital.
Kaia’s legs felt like jelly. She was shaking so hard she could barely stand.
Nathan recognized her soon. “Ms. Domont, are you alright?” he asked, his face etched with concern.
Kaia shook her head. “I'm fine. Just helpto a chair for a minute, would you?”

“Hey, Kaia. What's up? Missalready after just one day? Ha!” she teased.
“Alyssa.” Kaia’s voice was weak. “Could you cto Alfly? I'm on the nineteenth floor.”
“Wait-Kaia? What's going on?” Alyssa jumped to her feet. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? I'm coming right now!”
She didn’t know what had happened to her best friend, but the tremor in Kaia’s voice was unmistakable.
Lucien had just gotten out of his car when he saw his flustered niece. “Alyssa, where are you going?”

Lucien’s heart skipped a beat, his fingers twitching almost imperceptibly. “Alright, calm down. I'll go with you.”
The phone call had left Alyssa deeply unsettled.
She'd been about to seek scomfort from Lucien, but one glance at him and the words died in her throat.
The man in the driver's seat had eyes laced with fine red veins.
“Alyssa.” His voice was so hoarse it almost cracked. “Text her. Tell her we'll be there in twenty minutes.”
“But... Alden’s office is at least forty minutes away...”
Before she could finish, he repeated, his voice a low, strained growl. “Twenty minutes.”
The roads from the Graves Manor to downtown seemed to have magically cleared. Their black Maybach was the
only car flying down the asphalt.
Nineteen minutes later, they screeched to a halt.
Before Alyssa even closed the car door, Lucien was already halfway across the plaza, his strides fast and lethal,
like a man
about to collect a debt-with blood.

Kaia had her head buried in her knees. She'd been out of the elevator for a while now, but she still couldn't stop
her body from shaking.
If | wasn’t at my breaking point, | never would have called Alyssa.
But this was Alden’s company.
She couldn't afford to be seen like this-weak, crumpled,
wrecked.
Besides, he already left with the person he cherished most.
She knew it shouldn't bother her. It shouldn't. But fear, humiliation, and a sadness so heavy it felt like drowning-
those things didn’t follow logic.
Alyssa rushed in, breathless. “Kaia, are you okay?”
Hearing a familiar voice, Kaia’s carefully constructed composure shattered.
Her eyes reddened, and her voice choked. “Alyssa, you're here. I'm okay, just... My legs... | can’t seem to stand.”
Alyssa spun around, voice tight with panic. “Uncle Lucien! What should we do?”
Kaia froze. Her pulse stuttered.

Only then did she see the tall man kneeling beside her, his
expression grave.
“You can't stand?” His voice was tight

Kaia stared at him, her heart pounding.
