Chapter 335 | Like You

The entire room was shrouded in black, like a lifeless hell devoid of any brightness.
The atmosphere was suffocating, making anyone want to flee.
Charlotte stepped inside. “Mr. Caldwell?” she called out softly, searching for Jayce’s figure.
She dared not turn on the lights, fearing it might upset him.
Edward had warned her that his condition was extremely unstable.
Charlotte cautiously made her way deeper into the suite, her eyes slowly adapting to the darkness. The small
living room opened up right at the entrance, with what appeared to be a bedroom to the right.
As she walked further in, she spotted a figure sitting on the edge of the bed, his back to the door.
Charlotte's breath caught, but she kept her voice gentle. “Mr. Caldwell, are you alright?”
He remained motionless as if he had becone with the surrounding darkness.

head to see the door closing shut.
Her brows furrowed slightly, but she remained calm.
She walked over to Jayce and asked, “You were injured before. Are you feeling better?”
She was trying to find topics to bridge the distance between them.
But the figure by the bed remained motionless.
Charlotte sighed helplessly, “Mr. Caldwell, if you don’t talk to me, | don’t know what else to say.”
As her words faded, the figure stirred, slowly turning his head to look at her.
The room was pitch black, making it impossible for her to see his face clearly. She doubted if he could see hers.
Charlotte blinked and asked, “Can | turn on the light? I'd like to check your wounds.”
Jayce just stared at her steadily. Charlotte took a few more steps forward, close enough now to make out the
contours of his features.
“Didn’t you promise to cto my opening?” she asked. “Why didn’t you show up?”
Jayce remained silent in response to her question.

Charlotte kept chatting away. “So many people cby today, and a lot happened. You missed out on all the
excitement while you were gone.”
They were getting closer and closer.
Just when Charlotte thought he wasn’t going to say anything, the motionless figure suddenly moved.
He lunged forward without warning, wrapping his arms around her in an iron grip.
“Oof.” Charlotte let out a muffled grunt. His sudden movement caught her off guard, and she instinctively tried
to push away. But when her hands pressed against his chest, she could feel cach rib through the fabric-he’d

him.
Fighting down her fear, Charlotte kept her voice steady. “Mr. Caldwell, can we talk about this?”
Jayce just held her tighter, his breath hot against her neck, making her whole body tense up.
Charlotte felt backed into a corner. Her hand slipped into her pocket where she'd stashed the aromatherapy vial.
If she could just get him to sleep, maybe he'd be better when he woke up.

Charlotte froze. Jayce opened his mouth, stumbling over his words before she could respond. “I scared you that
day, didn’t 1? I'm sorry. | really scared you.”
His voice grew more frantic with each word, his sentences becoming increasingly jumbled.
“It’s okay, really. I'm fine.” Charlotte quickly assured him.
